Eau de Parfum vs. Eau de Toilette: What's the Difference?
When shopping for a new fragrance, you've likely noticed terms like Eau de Parfum (EDP) and Eau de Toilette (EDT) on the bottle. But what do they actually mean — and which one is right for you? Understanding fragrance concentration is the key to finding a scent that performs exactly the way you want it to.
Fragrance Concentration Explained
Every fragrance is a blend of aromatic compounds dissolved in alcohol and water. The concentration refers to the percentage of pure fragrance oil in that blend. Higher concentration = more intensity and longer wear.
Eau de Toilette (EDT)
EDT typically contains 5–15% fragrance oil. It's lighter, fresher, and ideal for daytime or warmer weather wear. EDTs tend to project well in the first hour and then settle into a softer skin scent. They're a great entry point into a fragrance house and often more affordable than their EDP counterparts.
Best for: Office, casual outings, spring and summer.
Eau de Parfum (EDP)
EDP contains 15–20% fragrance oil, making it richer, more complex, and longer-lasting — typically 6–8 hours on skin. The higher oil content means the dry-down (how a scent evolves over time) is more pronounced, revealing deeper base notes like woods, musks, and resins.
Best for: Evening wear, cooler seasons, special occasions.
Which Should You Choose?
There's no universal right answer — it comes down to your lifestyle, skin chemistry, and the occasion. If you want a signature scent that lasts all day and commands presence, an EDP is your best bet. If you prefer something lighter that you can reapply throughout the day, an EDT gives you that flexibility.
Many of our fragrances are available in both concentrations, so you can experience the same DNA in a format that suits your routine.
